Sapphire – Crystal Healing

Although the Greek word “sapphirus” means blue, the stone sapphire can come in a variety of colours.

Colour and description

Sapphire belongs, like ruby, to the corundum family. It can be blue, clear, orange, black, green, pink. or yellow.

Where is it found

Australia, Burma, Thailand, India, and the US; large light blue stones are found in Montana.

Hardness: 9

(Talc is the softest at number 1 and diamond the hardest at number 10.)

Structure: Belongs to the trigonal system.

Uses

Crystal healers use sapphire to treat the following conditions:

Ayurvedic medicine: Use this stone to treat colic, rheumatism, and mental illness. 

Digestion: Helps with nutrient assimilation. 

Pituitary gland: Encourages secretions effecting the metabolic rate and glandular functions.

Antidepressant: Lifts the spirits.

Other uses: Encourages a desire for prayer and devotion.
