Grapefruit – Essential Oil

Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi)

Uplifting, clarifying, and versatile, grapefruit oil can be used to cleanse the body, reduce depression, stimulate the immune system, decrease fluid retention, curb sugar craving, and aid weight loss.

As a natural disinfectant, it can be used to detoxify the body of toxins and waste, reduces disease-causing inflammation. 

Cautions

Do not use on babies or children under the age of 5 years. 

Check with your doctor if you are pregnant, taking antidepressants or blood pressure medications. 

Be mindful of over-exposure to direct sunlight as some citrus oils can increase photosensitivity.

Further Information

Where grown: Originating in Barbados in the 18th century, the main producer now is China, seconded by Vietnam. Grapefruit also grows in Mexico, South Africa, and the US.

Parts used and method of extraction: Oil is extracted from glands located in the peel by cold-pressing.

Colour and smell: Clean, fresh, and a little bit bitter

Active Ingredients: 88-95% limonene.

Properties: Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antimicrobial. Grapefruit is an antioxidant food, anticarcinogenic agent, and natural stress-fighter.

Mixes well with: Frankincense, ylang ylang, geranium, lavender, peppermint, rosemary, orange, lemon, and bergamot.
