As the Founder of Sketch To Express and a compassionate wellbeing practitioner, I help individuals of all ages to improve their mental health and emotional wellbeing through Drawing and Talking Therapy.
My approach provides a safe and supportive space where my clients feel heard, valued and supported. With empathy and understanding, I build trusting relationships that allow individuals to express their emotions in a creative and therapeutic way, allowing them to heal unprocessed trauma and improve their emotional regulation and self-esteem.
This service caters to a diverse range of people, whether an individual is experiencing anxiety, prolonged stress, significant life changes, has underlying emotional difficulties or has suffered trauma. With a holistic approach that is therapeutic, it feels more exploratory and less direct than conventional talk, reducing barriers to emotional expression and making it accessible to the majority.
With an accomplished background in teaching, learning and pastoral care, as well as accreditations in counselling, child psychology and mental health, I aim to support others with kindness and care, helping them develop the confidence and self-belief to navigate life’s challenges.
By expressing our thoughts in a visual way, we can make sense of our inner world. Some direct talking therapies can be confrontational and overwhelming, and words alone aren’t always enough to convey our deepest emotions. I offer a calm, safe, non-judgemental space where you are free to express yourself creatively. Drawing and Talking is a form of therapeutic play and the focus is not on artistic skill, but emotional expression.
Within these 1:1 sessions, people can draw and talk about anything they choose. My role isn’t to interpret the drawings, or ask direct questions, but to encourage playful talk using imaginative language, giving people the chance to externalise their feelings and create their own resolutions. This enables them to feel more in control and trust in their own ability to heal.
Based on Jungian principles, this is a gentle process with powerful results!
Number of Sessions:
This is a short term, time-limited therapy that lasts for 12 weeks. I meet with clients once a week for 30 minutes, preferably on the same day. This is an attachment based approach and is person-centred. Sessions are gentle and non-intrusive with respect for my client’s pace and state of being.
I also offer Sand Play; a therapeutic technique which is an alternative to Drawing and Talking. Within these sessions, individuals use small miniature figures and objects to express and communicate their emotions using wet or dry sand trays. It offers tactile exploration where people can create their own narratives, express their thoughts and feelings and resolve internal conflicts.
Ideal for pre-schoolers (aged 4+) and young children, however Sand Play can also be beneficial for young people, teenagers and older adults to help them process pain or trauma.
