SAPPHIRE lifts the spirits

SAPPHIRE:  Although the Greek word "sapphirus" means "blue" the stone sapphire can come in a variety of colours

Colour and description: Sapphire belongs, like ruby to the corundum family.  It can be blue, clear, orange, black, green, pink or yellow.

Where is it found: Australia, Burma, Thailand, India and the US, large light blue stones are found in Montana.

Hardness: 9

(Talc is the softest at number 1 and diamond the hardest at number 10)

Structure: Belongs to the trigonal system.


Crystal healers use sapphire to treat the following conditions:


Ayurvedic medicine: Use this stone to treat colic, rheumatism and mental illness. 

Digestion: Helps with nutrient assimilation. 

Pituitary gland: Encourages secretions effecting the metabolic rate and glandular functions.

Antidepressant: Lifts the spirits.

Other uses:  Encourages a desire for prayer and devotion.
