It may sound nuts but is Caloric Restriction the ultimate anti-ageing regime?

According to an article in the Annual Review of Medicine, Calorie restriction (CR) is the most effective and reproducible intervention for increasing lifespan in a variety of animal species, including mammals. In addition, it was also stated that CR may also prevent a broad range of cancers.

Is there really an Anti-Ageing Medicine?

There is so much hype around the whole anti-ageing arena that you could be forgiven for assuming that there really must be an effective anti-ageing drug either available or at least just around the corner!  More . . .

 

Did you know . . .

  • You can add approximately 40 - 50 years to your lifespan using periodic fasting and caloric restriction.
  • Anti again supplements can add 20-30 years to your lifespan.
  • It's likey to add 15 - 25 years to your life if you eat a nutritionally sound, individually tailored diet.
  • High-tech bio-medicine such as ethical stem cell therapy may add 15-25 years or more to your lifespan.
  • Quality of life (prosperity, relaxation, regular holidays) can add 15-25 years to your lifespan.
  • Regular exercise and moderate physical activity can add 10-20 years to your lifespan.

These approaches taken together can add 60-80 years or more to your lifespan, if you start young (say at age 20). But even if you only start later (say at 45-50), you can still gain 30-40 years.  However, these estimates are based on the results of current scientific research and future progress in knowledge and life-extension techniques will certainly increase the potential gains beyond these figures.

So, if you can live long enough to benefit from these new techniques, there is a "virtuous circle", and your potential lifespan could be even longer!
